RE: Golf carts!?

So to each his own. If you prefer to walk, I could care less, so why beat me down and stereotype me? Well put. I don't understand what is going on with this forum lately ?? :( People are so quick to judge and label each other. Who cares how someone else enjoys their camping experience. Is it necessary to insult those who do things differently than you do ?? :h Live and let live.

RE: Golf carts!?

We've been to campgrounds that have problems with out of control golf carts. Mostly kids riding around recklessly. I think if the rules are enforced properly, golf carts are great. We are members are a campground close to home and usually go for 2 weeks at a time. It is a big campground and we usually get a site in the back area because the sites are really big and better for kids/dogs. We are the farthest away from the facilities though. We use the golf cart to... ~ Bring wet/sandy kids back from the beach or pool ~ Show friends that come to visit the campground ~ Take the garbage to the dumpster ~ Drop the kids off at the rec center and then they walk back when they are done Personally I wish MORE campgrounds allowed electric golf carts. They are quieter and better for the environment. We see{hear} so many people in big diesel trucks driving the kids around or taking garbage to the dumpster. They even idle outside the shower house waiting for people. Golf carts would be so much better for use around the campground !! My biggest complaint about golf carts is campground that won't allow you to bring your own...but will gladly RENT you one of theirs for $50 bucks a night !! :S

RE: Shoe storage in your RV

Shoes are an issue for us sometimes too !! There are 5 of us and we usually each bring 3 pair of shoes (sneakers, slip ons or sandals, and crocs). We replaced our hoop chair with a boot bench and that works for holding 5 pair of shoes. The other ones go into a tub with a lid and we out under the motorhome near the steps. It's easy to get into and keeps the shoes dry and bug free.

RE: Summer almost over =(

We want to take at least one trip to enjoy the fall colors in northern Michigan. We also want to take in one of the fall festival / Halloween weekends at one of many Michigan State Parks. Shannone, if you haven't done one of the Halloween weekends, you really need to take the family and go. The kids will love it. We have a lot more fun decorating the RV than the house. We also give out more candy. Terry We were going to do a fall colors weekend up in Alpena but it is about a 450 miles round trip for just a two night weekend. Gas prices being what they are, I think we are going to have to try for something closer to home. We do have a Halloween weekend planned close to home, and a Halloweekend at Cedar Point. We did that last year and had a GREAT time. :)

RE: great campground bad campsite

So FYI beware of the PI at this CG. BB signing out. Thanks for the heads up Bonnie. I don't understand the mean remarks either. If we knew all the answers or didn't want to help each other out there would be no point in this forum in the first place, right ?? :W

RE: great campground bad campsite

If there are empty sites available I would definitely explain to them the problem with your site and ask for another one. I think it also depends on how long you plan to stay. If you are staying a week or so and this happened on day one and there was no other sites available...I would look for another campground in the area. If you are only staying the weekend and there was nothing else open, I would probably just suck it up and try to be cautious about the poisen ivy. They probably aren't going to refund your money at this point. I'd rather have a crappy campsite in a decent campground than to be stuck at home ;)

RE: Summer almost over =(

DW had much needed back surgery and went through a long recovery. We decided to do it in the summer because we didn't want her unstable in the snow and ice of winter. That kept us home for the past couple of months. My mother was also very ill and that kept us home. Now DW is better than ever and mom is back home with dad and doing well. We are off to one of our favorite SPs next weekend (Labor Day). After that, I'm off to New York to play announcer at a kite festival. Then I'm taking the TT to Gettysburg for a week with the guys (no DW) at the biggest gathering of kite fanatics in the US, the American Kitefliers' Association Convention. After that, we are going to the Crotched Mountain School during the Columbus Day weekend to provide sound and fun for the kids and camping for the rest of the long weekend. The school is a place the helps young people who have spinal injuries. It's the festival I look forward to the most every year. There have been a few times when I went out to the TT and just sat in it this summer. Next year will be better and this season isn't over yet :) I'm glad your DW and DM are doing better and you are going to be able to do some camping. A kite festival sounds like fun....I bet my hubby wouldn't mind a week alone camping with his buddies. ;)

RE: Summer almost over =(

We love fall camping...cider mills, sweatshirts, bonfires because you actually need them to warm up, football, cooler weather, etc. We have about 5 fall camping weekends planned up through Halloween. It's not as easy with the kids. We can't leave on Friday's until they get home from school (they are older now and can't ditch class as easily), sometimes they have to bring along their homework, days are shorter. We do enjoy the falls though. We had a really nice summer this year...it wasn't too hot, nights usually cooled down and were comfortable. We could use some rain though, we are under a fire ban at the moment because it is so dry.

Summer almost over =(

I swear the summer goes by faster every year !! :( We are on our last camping trip before the kids go back to school. Hard to believe the pools will be closing up in two weeks and the kids will be in school. Did everyone do all of the camping they planned to this summer ??

RE: Where do you store your towels?

We use a towel rack on the bathroom door and have the towels on the outside of the door. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/Shannone1/IMG_0217.jpg

RE: Shared water toys etiquette?

We have a boat and will often invite friends out for a day on the lake. We would never expect gas money as we invited them. However, we did go on a group trip last summer and we took our boat. It was used everyday for fishing/tubing/cruising and the other 3 families all chipped in for gas. We had decided as a group ahead of time to use out boat rather than rent one of the older boats the campground offered.

RE: MI- Family Camping rally, Memorial Day '09

We will be attending. We are on site #8 which is full hook up on the waterfront. Girls will be 13 by then. Yes we also play Euchre. Maybe we could host a fire at are site on night and the kids can fish right at our site if they want. movin on up Sounds great. Our kids would love that :)

RE: MI- Family Camping rally, Memorial Day '09

I will have to give this one some thought. Does the campground fill up fast? When I set this up a few weeks ago they did not have many bookings for Memorial Day weekend yet. However being a holiday weekend, I would try to book it before the end of this camping season. Normally you would have to pay for all 3 nights ahead of time since it is a holiday. For us though, Jill was willing to make an exception and you only have to put down on night. You also get to choose your campsite. :)

RE: Michigan FAMILY RALLY

Just a friendly bump to bring this up to the front again and hopefully find some new families that would like to camp together next year :)

Anyone else out there interested in attending ?? So far just two of us have booked our sites (#258 & #259). We'd love to have more people join us. :)

RE: Traveling times

Am I being realistic on a 3 day travel time on going to Seattle, WA from Wichita Falls, TX? I am getting nervous about not meeting a deadline. I have done many checks on mileage and it shows its about 2048 to the exact location I am staying. That makes it 12 hour drives for 3 days. Is that possible? I'm getting nervous. We plan on 2 hours for every 100 miles. We find that allows for stopping at rest areas so my husband can stretch his legs and we can walk our dogs. It also allows for fuel stops. 12 hours of comfortable driving for us would put us at about 600 miles which would be 1800 miles after 3 days. Even if you don't stop as often you will still need gas/food. SO is it possible to drive for 12 hours a day, 3 days in a row....yes, it's just not much fun. BUT it is possible to drive 12 hours a day, 3 days in a row and make it 2000 miles ?? I think you could do it...but you will be awfully tired. I hope you have someone going with you to help you stay awake :Z

RE: Rear running lights on all night ??

I didn't mean to start a rant about camping lights in general. I've been around here long enough to know what a heated debate that can be. :W I was just really curious about the reason for the running lights on all night. I hadn't thought about people leaving them on because they were close to the road and afraid someone would hit them. I also think they would make a lot of sense if overnighting at a travel stop or that kind of thing.

RE: Dimmer Control for Outdoor Lights

I think dimmer switches for those particular lights are a great idea. I really like the look of the globes but they are just too bright. Our neighbors behind us had a set when we camped last month and they lit up our whole site. It definitely took away from the ambiance of the campfire. We saw some campers this last weekend with a set of them on a dimmer and they were MUCH nicer that way :B

Rear running lights on all night ??

I've been meaning to ask this but it kept slipping my mind until we went camping this weekend. There were 6 5th wheels/TT's in our row alone that left their red running lights on the back of their RV's on all night long. I've been trying to figure out the point of it. I can't understand maybe wanting a little more light if you are outside behind the RV, but what's the point once you are inside ??
